Giju Jimulu

This tree is called Giju Jimulu, aka a Boab Tree. It was moved 3200 kms to Kings Park, a huge journey. I remember hearing about it and really wanted to see it. I was lucky to see it in February of this year. This tree is 750 years old and 2.5 metres wide. It is a gorgeous tree and I was so impressed with it. There is definitely a special magic about it.

In February, it was shooting and producing fruit for the first time since being moved. This means that the whole transplant process is working. It is wonderful.

This is a link to a video which explains the whole journey. Click on the first link "Boab Transplant"

Laura,
That was an amzing story. I wish people here would put such value on old trees.

This was a very sacred tree to the aboriginal people in the Kimberley area. Western Australia and Kings Park are huge on conservation and so forth, so they pounced on it.

But we are just the same here. People couldn't care less about old trees. It is sad really.
